21st Century Skills in Global Education
Heidi Hayes Jacobs, a leader in calling for change of our education system, asks "What year are you preparing your students for?" Take a look at her lecture below and I guarantee you will see your role in students' education differently. In connection to global education, she asks that you put the prefix "-geo" in front of your curricular topics- suggesting that 21st century education MUST address global issues in order for our students to be successful in the future. |

How do I tie Global Learning and Web 2.0 Together?
Many of us are trying to implement global learning in our classrooms while also using student-centered, 21st century strategies to bring relevance to our courses. Additionally, most of us understand the need for using web 2.0 tools in our classrooms, yet aren't sure how to blend these ideas together. The Asia Society has compiled a list of excellent Web 2.0 tools and additionally have provided ideas for how to use these tools to achieve global education. Check out their pages here:

Global Action through Web 2.0Dr. Michael Wesch points out that through the forms of media available to students today, global action is possible! We are no longer passive participants in the media age- the internet is a two-way system for communicating ideas- so much so, that one post can create a global movement for change. I found this TedTalk particularly inspiring, as it shows how we should think about the use of the internet in our classrooms- and in connection to the four principles of global competency, it allows our students to communicate their ideas and take action in a relevant, meaningful manner.

Sharing 21st century Resources While in MOrocco
Here is a document I created to share with teachers while in Morocco. I tried to consider the forms of technology available in their country, and was pleasantly surprised to find that many of my Moroccan students could participate in Web 2.0 learning through the use of their cell phone. If you are interested in using technology in your classroom, please feel free to use this document!
Check out my Pinterest boards that were created during our 8-week course. The first board shows resources that were useful in implementing global education in my classroom- many of these were also helpful when looking for project-based learning opportunities. The second board shows resources specific to Social Studies classrooms, and the third board shows resources that would allow me to connect my classroom to others- all three boards include resources and websites incorporating 21st century skills and global education.
